Raipur, Jun 21 (PTI) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday flagged off the 'Gajrath Yatra' with the aim of reducing human-elephant conflicts in the state and to spread awareness about wildlife conservation, an official said.
As part of the initiative, awareness about elephant behaviour, safety measures and co-existence will be conveyed to people in schools, gram panchayats and haat-bazaars (village markets), he added.
"Community participation and awareness is extremely necessary to reduce the increasing conflict between humans and elephants. 'Gajrath Yatra' will become a meaningful medium in this direction, which will help in reducing human-wildlife conflict by educating people," Sai said after launching the initiative at an event in Jashpur.
Sai also released a short film and a booklet prepared by the state forest department that gives information on precautions related to elephants, understanding their behaviour and safety measures. It will be distributed among school children, villagers and local communities.
The CM also planted a 'sindoor' sapling on the occasion and asked people to take part in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign.
