Man held for killing stepbrother over property dispute in Thane district

Thane, Jun 21 (PTI) A 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his stepbrother, whose decapitated body was found in a village in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Saturday.
    The police on Friday arrested Salman Mohammad Gouri Ansari (25) for killing the victim, Faisal Mohammad Gouri Ansari (29) and dumping his body in Nalimbi village, an official said.
    District Superintendent of Police Dr DS Swami said the body of an unidentified man was found in a forested area of the village on May 29.
    "Our teams reviewed CCTV footage from the locality and cross-referenced it with missing persons reports from all police stations across the state," he said.
    The official said the victim's picture was also widely circulated in public places and on WhatsApp groups.
    The breakthrough came when the probe team identified an unknown car in the vicinity of the crime scene and traced it to the accused, Salman Mohammad Gouri Ansari, a resident of Manda, Titwala, the SP said.
    The accused confessed to killing his stepbrother, Faisal, he said.
    An interrogation revealed that the brothers quarrelled frequently and were involved in a property dispute, the official said.
