Indore, Jun 18 (PTI) Factionalism exists in every political party, but dissensions in the Congress appear more noticeable in Madhya Pradesh because the organisation in the BJP-ruled state has become weak over the years, party Lok Sabha MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said on Wednesday.
However, the Lok Sabha member from Amritsar was quick to emphasis that Congress leaders in Madhya Pradesh are working together to strengthen the party organisation.
Aujla has been sent here as an observer for election of the next president of the District Congress Committee of Indore under the party's 'organisation rejuvenation campaign' launched earlier this month.
Asked by reporters about factionalism in the Madhya Pradesh Congress, the parliamentarian insisted that the presence of competing groups is a reality in every political party.
"Look, factionalism is there in every party, but here (in Madhya Pradesh) you are seeing more factionalism because the Congress has become weak. All our leaders are united and they are working together to strengthen the organisation,'' Aujla maintained.
He stressed that the next Indore district Congress president will be elected in a 'fair and transparent manner' on the basis of opinion polls from ordinary party workers.
Indore, the home district of state Congress president Jitu Patwari, is considered one of the strongholds of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh.
During the last assembly elections held in 2023, the BJP won all the nine seats in Indore.
The Congress, once a formidable force in Madhya Pradesh, has been waiting for victory from the Indore Lok Sabha seat since 1989.
