Man rapes 5-year-old in Agra temple arrested

     Agra (UP), May 28 (PTI) A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man inside a temple in Jagdishpura area of Agra, police said on Wednesday.
     A 22-year-old man who is said to be mentally challenged allegedly took the girl inside the temple and raped her on May 18. The child was playing near the temple before the incident, they said.
     The crime was caught on CCTV.
     In a post on X, the Agra police commissionerate said the incident took in the Jagdishpura area and the accused, Pavitra alias Pammi, has been arrested.
     "We have zero tolerance in cases of crime against women especially children. A detailed probe is on in the matter," it said.
     UP state women commission chief Babita Chauhan on Wednesday met the girl and also visited the temple. She also took information about the case from the police and said that the case will be tried in the fast track court.
     Assistant Police Commissioner (Women Security) Sukanya Sharma said an FIR was lodged based on a complaint by the family. Multiple police teams were deployed to arrest Pavitra who is said to be mentally challenged, she said.
     Assistant Police Commissioner (Loha Mandi Circle) Mayank Tiwari said He lives in the same area as the victim and does not work with anyone.
     "This case is very serious, so the chargesheet will be presented in the next three days. The case will be tried in a fast track court so that the accused can be punished as soon as possible," he said.
