Hyderabad, May 15 (PTI) BRS Working President K T Rama Rao on Thursday alleged that the Supreme Court's stern warning to Telangana government officials was a direct result of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's "misdeeds", which have now placed them under the "threat" of imprisonment.

Rama Rao was reacting to apex court’s observations regarding the felling of trees adjacent to the University of Hyderabad here, that it prima facie appeared to be “pre-planned”.
The top court directed the Telangana government to either restore it or face legal consequences, including possible jail time for its officials.

“Your misdeeds have led Telangana Govt officials under your command to face the Honourable Supreme Court’s stern warning, with the looming threat of going to jail. Attempts to evade accountability will not succeed—justice demands answers. The immediate restoration of Kancha Gachibowli’s forests is non-negotiable, or be prepared for legal repercussions,” Rama Rao said in a statement.

He also referred to a Rs 10,000 crore “scam” involving the alleged sale of HCU land, terming it a "blatant act of corruption" and "betrayal". Deploying bulldozers on weekends to circumvent oversight and destroy green cover is a clear violation of environmental laws, he claimed.

Rao further warned that such "reckless actions" could jeopardise the ecosystem and undermine the rule of law.
Kancha Gachibowli’s forests must be protected, and it is high time the CM took responsibility for the "whole mess", he added.

Reacting to SC's comments, senior Congress leader Madhu Yashki told PTI that the party high command is seized of the matter and has taken serious note of the situation.

After the agitations by the UoH students, faculty and civil societies, the party has sent in charge of Telangana, Meenakshi Natarajan and authorised her to interact with them, he recalled.

“She took them directly to the government to negotiate including withdrawal of the cases to resolve the issue amicably,” he said.

The Telangana government's plan in March to develop the 400 acres of land next to UOH in Kancha Gachibowli to develop IT infrastructure sparked protests by the varsity's students' union and other groups.
