Woman stabbed to death while resisting rape attempt in Rajkot man arrested

Rajkot, May 14 (PTI) A man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 53-year-old nurse at her home after she resisted his rape attempt in Gujarat's Rajkot city, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place in the city's Rushikesh Nagar locality a little after midnight on Tuesday, Assistant Commissioner of Police B J Chaudhary said.
The accused was identified as Kanji Vanja (34).
"The victim worked as a nurse at a government-run cancer treatment facility. She had been transferred a few months ago from Ahmedabad and lived alone in a rented house," the official said.
Around 12:45 am on Tuesday, the accused barged into her house. The woman confronted him with a knife and slashed his hand and a leg, but he managed to snatch it from her and allegedly stabbed her in the chest, said the official.
Vanja lived in the same neighbourhood but the two had never talked to each other before, Chaudhary said.
He was arrested soon after and confessed to his motive during interrogation, the police official said. Further probe is on.
