Australian UK varsities setting up campuses in Navi Mumbai Fadnavis

Mumbai, May 2 (PTI) Two leading universities from Australia and the United Kingdom on Friday signed an agreement with the Maharashtra government to set up campuses in Navi Mumbai, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.
The projects envisage an investment of Rs 1,500 crore in each campus, Fadnavis told reporters at the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) underway here.
The campuses will come up at Educity, the mega education hub launched by the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra in Navi Mumbai, Fadnavis said.
Educity will have campuses of 10 to 12 top world universities which figure in the global top 100 ranking, he said.
Today, MoUs were signed with the University of Western Australia and University of York to set up their campuses, Fadnavis said.
Talks have been finalised with three more universities to set up campuses in Educity, he said, adding discussions are underway with five other foreign universities.
Fadnavis lauded the NSE for launching the Nifty Waves Index, which tracks 43 media and entertainment companies in the AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics) sector. This move will help boost the financial ecosystem in this sector, he said.
A statement by the Chief Minister's Office said MoUs worth Rs 8,000 crore were signed in the presence of the CM. An MoU worth Rs 3,000 crore between the Industries department and Prime Focus Company was signed in the area of media and entertainment and is expected to generate 2,500 jobs. The project will commence in 2025-26.
Another MoU worth Rs 2,000 crore was signed with Godrej Fund Management which is expected to generate 2,500 jobs in the field of media and entertainment. As per the MoU, a studio will be established in Panvel. The first phase will see an investment of Rs 500 crore and generate 600 jobs and commence in 2027. The second phase will see an investment of Rs 1,500 crore and generate 1,900 jobs and this will be completed by 2030.
Fadnavis assured all possible assistance by the state government agencies with whom the MoUs have been inked.
