New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) The industry is pitching usage of cold roll forming at Noida International Airport as it is a sustainable and environment-friendly option for manufacturing of furniture and other fixtures.
According to experts, precision-driven sheet metal cold roll forming can be used for shaping metal strips into high-accuracy profiles with minimal waste and enhanced strength.
Cold roll forming is a continuous, high-speed metal fabrication process that shapes metal strips into uniform profiles at room temperature using sequential sets of rollers.
"The initiative by Noida International Airport is a strong step in embedding sustainability into passenger-facing infrastructure. The next opportunity lies in extending this thinking to how these products are manufactured, ensuring minimal waste and higher material efficiency," said Santosh Venkatasubbaiah, Director – Sales and Marketing - Mother India Forming.
The company manufactures sheet-metal cold roll formed components, including those for furniture.
The deployment of low-emission furniture at Noida International Airport can be a significant step towards sustainable aviation infrastructure, towards further strengthening such efforts through sheet metal precision cold roll forming, which offers material efficiency, high strength and durability, and enables faster installation, he said.
The airport has installed over 6,000 furniture units across terminals and operational areas, with workstations designed to be 66 per cent recyclable, reflecting a broader shift in sustainability focus beyond construction to passenger-facing infrastructure.
"Cold roll forming enables precision manufacturing with significantly lower material wastage compared to conventional methods. Integrating such processes into airport infrastructure can strengthen sustainability outcomes while also improving durability and scalability," Venkatasubbaiah added.
Mother India Forming further said that reducing material waste contributes to lower embedded carbon, while efficient manufacturing systems can align with emerging carbon accounting frameworks.
The development also holds relevance for Airports Authority of India, which is overseeing airport expansion across the country.
The Jewar (Noida International Airport) initiative is being viewed as a benchmark in integrating sustainability into operational infrastructure, with stakeholders indicating that aligning manufacturing practices with similar environmental goals could further accelerate India’s transition towards net-zero aviation.
