New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) Electronics manufacturer Optiemus Infracom expects revenue of Rs 1,800-2,000 crore in the 2027 financial year from its tempered glass screen protectors business, a top company official said on Wednesday.
The company launched RhinoTech, made-in-India tempered glass screen protectors, which use glass engineered by Corning.
Optiemus Infracom Chairman Ashok Kumar Gupta said that RhinoTech brings global technology and innovation with enhanced hygienic benefits like anti-microbial glass.
"It is the first time in India that such advanced screen protection, developed with glass from Corning Incorporated, will be produced locally and made available for both domestic and international markets. We expect additional revenue of Rs 1,800-2,000 crore in financial year 2027 from RhinoTech business," Gupta said.
RhinoTech screen protectors will be manufactured at Optiemus' facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
High-tech glass technology company Corning will provide a specialized line of screen protectors utilising technology created in Corning’s labs and that is designed for the ultimate screen protector.
Optiemus will process the glass in the Noida factory through chemical treatment.
Gupta said that the company will start selling the product in the local market from September onwards.
"Optiemus is creating a future where an Indian consumer has an option to choose a screen protector that's truly engineered for excellence. At Corning, we have designed specifically a glass screen protector application for those who choose to have this extra layer of protection for their devices, which gives them added peace of mind. Compared to the existing screen protectors in the market, this is 5 times better on the scratch performance and survived up to 6 feet in the lab test," Corning India, Managing Director, Sudhir Pillai said.
The Indian domestic market for tempered glass screen protectors is estimated to be 400 million pieces with a retail value of Rs 20,000 crore in 2025.
At present, over 90 per cent of demand is met through low-cost imports, leading to inconsistent quality and an unorganised market.
The government has introduced the world’s first Indian standard for “Chemically Tempered Glass Screen Protectors” via the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on 28 July 2025 to check the proliferation of cheap imports in the market and push for high-quality screen protectors.
