Raipur, Jul 3 (PTI) The Union government has approved Rs 20.55 crore for the establishment of a biotech incubation centre at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University (IGAU) campus in Chhattisgarh's Raipur city, an official said on Thursday.
The incubation centre will be developed as part of the Biotechnology Park project, he added.
"The project is being implemented by Chhattisgarh Biotechnology Promotion Society under Department of Agriculture and Biotechnology. The main objective of this biotech incubation centre is to promote innovation and startup culture along with exploitation of bio resources," he said.
"Youth will be provided training, technical assistance and infrastructure for setting up biotechnology based industries. Twenty-three modern laboratories will be set up in this incubation centre, which will have BS-4 level biosafety facilities. Two central instrumentation and analytical testing labs are also being set up," he added.
Arrangements will be made for the operation of 17 micro and small and six large industries in the incubation centre, while offices will be set up for 23 startup companies that can be operational at the centre for a period of three years, the official informed.
"Startups related to agriculture and pharma biotechnology will be given special priority. The centre will establish coordination between research and industries. It will also open doors for employment and entrepreneurship," the official said.
