Arjun Kanungo was 18 when he opened his recording studio, Promethean Audio. Soon, he got into playback singing and tasted commercial success with the song ‘Khoon Choos Le’ in Go Goa Gone (2013), starring Saif Ali Khan. He is also a three-time national gold medal winner in centre-fire pistol and a national-level basketball player. In 2015, he came out with ‘Baaki Baatein Peene Baad’—his debut single with rapper Badshah which became a party anthem and won him an award at the Global Music Academy Awards that year. Now, the singer is all set to make his acting debut with the Salman Khan-starrer, Radhe.

Q/ Are you excited about making your film debut?

A/ This is what I call the stuff of legends. I have not been quite so excited about something in a long time. It is a dream come true to work on a project as big as this with megastars like Salman bhai. I believe that things happen in your life when they are meant to, and I feel like 2020 is the year in which acting will become an important part of my career as an entertainer. With this project, I felt that it was the right time and the right character. The character I play in Radhe is quite nuanced.

Q/ What made you agree to do this film?

A/ The script is great. It has Salman bhai in it with Prabhu Deva sir directing. My character is quite different and difficult. All I can say is that people are going to be surprised to see me in a character like this. It is not what they are used to seeing.

Q/ Will it be more acting and less singing now?

A/ Music is everything to me. Even if I had not become successful in my career, I would have still taken up music. Everything I have is because of music. It was not just another career option for me; I had plenty of options. But I chose music despite the fact that it is one of the most difficult careers. I am glad that I was stupid and took the risk. It is 100 per cent worth it. I believe I can do both acting and singing if I work hard.
