In a major crackdown in Denmark, police registered case against over 1,000 youths for sending a sex video of two minors. The action came after Facebook tipped off the US authorities who alerted Denmark police through Europol, the law enforcement agency of European Union.
Reports said, so far, 1,004 youngsters, including over 200 girls, have been booked under charges of spreading child pornography. Most of the suspects are aged between 15 and 20. Anyone found guilty of this charge faces a conditional prison sentence of 20 days. They will be also listed on a register of child pornography offenders for 10 years.
The video clip of two 15-year-olds having consensual sex was spread on Facebook from 2015 till autumn of 2017.
Although the age of consent in Denmark is 15, the country's law stipulates that distributing sexual material involving people under the age of 18 constitutes distribution of child pornography. The violation would attract a maximum six-year prison sentence.
