With the Republicans facing widespread drubbing in the US midterm elections, US President Donald Trump claimed that the GOP would have won a landslide margin if his name was on the ballot.
Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Donald Trump said he was not a candidate in the recent elections.
"I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE! Thank you for your attention to this matter," Trump posted.
In an interview with the New York Times, Trump on Tuesday said he was willing to accept the results of the elections.
"We'll work with the Democrats, and well, you know, look forward to working with them. Well probably work something out," Trump was quoted as saying by the NYT.
The President's latest remarks is a reflection of his own words before the election. Trump had told his supporters repeatedly to "pretend I'm on the ballot." However, this message was happily echoed by Democratic leaders who wanted voters to give their verdict on Trump's performance in the last two years.
This comes as Democrats rode a wave of voter discontent over the Iran war, rising costs and economy as Trump's approval ratings neared an all-time low.
Democrats have captured majorities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
