At least 13 people were killed and many others were injured after Russian forces on Thursday launched a jet-powered missile at a railway station in Ukraine's Dnipro.
The passenger train #866 was preparing to depart for Zaporizhzhia when the platform it was waiting on was attacked by a Russian jet-powered UAV, the Ukrainian Railways said in a statement on Telegram.
That UAV was one of four launched at the area at around 11 AM (local time), while the other three were downed mid-air by Ukrainian air defences.
Soon after the attack, Dnipropetrovsk regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha wrote on Telegram that at least five people were injured, and were receiving medical help.
He also pointed out that despite an active high-alert warning, people were present on the platform, which led to deaths and injuries.
Visuals from the scene showed the sides of one of the trains had turned black and damaged due to the blast, with smoke issuing from a number of dead bodies lying on the platform—with some even burning.
Just a few hours after the devastating attack, the injury toll reached 13, of which four people are in a serious condition: a 11-year-old boy, a woman aged 26, and two men aged 40 and 53.
"The condition of the other wounded is assessed by medical staff as moderate. All are in the hospital, where they are receiving the necessary medical care," Ganzha wrote in an update a few hours later.
"Just and decisive action by America and Europe is needed in response to Russian escalation—sanctions against Moscow and its war machine must not be eased for as long as this Russian war continues. It is time for new, stronger sanctions steps by the EU, the United States, and the G7," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote in an X post, condoling the deaths.
