Notorious Indian fugitive and gang leader Himanshu Bhau has been arrested by the FBI in the United States, bringing an end to a manhunt involving multiple murder and extortion cases across Delhi and Haryana.

Himanshu Bhau, one of India’s most wanted fugitives, and an associate were arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States on Friday.

The US government’s online detainee locator lists two Indian-born men, Himanshu Sigroha and Neeraj Kaushik, as being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Henderson Detention Centre in Nevada. Their cases are being handled by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) office in Las Vegas.

Neither ICE nor the FBI has issued a public statement on the arrests.

Bhau, a rival of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, is wanted in multiple criminal cases, including murder, attempts to murder and extortion, registered in Delhi and Haryana. He is also accused of running a criminal network in the two states while operating from abroad.

Hailing from Ritoli village in Haryana’s Rohtak district, Bhau is among the youngest gangsters to emerge from the state’s organised crime network.

He is reportedly associated with the Neeraj Bawana gang and has been embroiled in a violent rivalry with the Lawrence Bishnoi–Goldy Brar network.

According to police, Bhau allegedly obtained a passport using forged documents before fleeing India. Investigators suspect his gang’s involvement in a series of shootings and murders across Haryana and the National Capital Region (NCR).

At the request of Indian law enforcement agencies, an Interpol notice was issued against Bhau in August 2023. At the time, police said he was wanted in 18 cases involving murder, attempted murder, extortion, criminal intimidation and forgery.

He was reportedly hiding in Canada for two years before entering the United States.
