An Indian pharmaceutical company’s facility in Ukraine was struck by a Russian drone on Saturday.

One person was killed, and several others were injured in the attack. The main structure of the pharmaceutical plant owned by Kusum Group was severely damaged in the attack.

The facility in Sumy had continued operating through the Russia-Ukraine war. Preliminary reports suggest that the property was worth nearly Rs 400 crore.

Visuals from the site showed smoke rising from the facility after the drones struck. Local officials said that the casualty figures could change as rescue and assessment operations continue.

The Kusum Group began its operation in 1994 by exporting medicines from India to Ukraine. The company is currently run by Indian national Rajeev Gupta.

The Kusum Group established a manufacturing plant in India in 2007. Another facility was built in the Sumy region of Ukraine in 2009. The company later established two more manufacturing facilities in India.

Kusum Group manufactures more than 50 pharmaceutical products, most of which are generic medicines. The products are sold in more than nine countries, including Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and the Philippines.

The attacks come amid an intensification of Russian air strikes in the Ukraine. Moscow has launched a large number of Shahed drones, including jet-powered variants.

Kyiv also announced the first combat use of its domestically developed FP-7 ballistic missile, which reportedly has a range of around 250 km.

Russia had warned that it would continue to carry out strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. Moscow also urged foreign nationals and diplomats to leave Ukraine.
