Eleven people were killed and 30 others injured in an explosion in Pakistan's northwestern Dera Ismail Khan district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan on Saturday.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
A suicide attacker allegedly detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at a checkpoint, causing the explosion, the Associated Press reported, citing police and rescue officials.
According to emergency service Rescue 1122, eight men, two women and a child were among those killed in the attack.
The explosion took place at the Aman Mela checkpost near Mughal Kot and Darazinda on the Dera Ismail Khan-Quetta Road, close to the border between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, according to police, reported The Dawn.
Bomb disposal teams have been sent to the location to establish the nature and cause of the explosion, police said.
Rescue 1122 said its teams from the Darazinda station rushed to the site following the blast and launched relief operations. The injured were given medical assistance before being transported to hospital.
Dera Ismail Khan is located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near Pakistan's border regions adjoining Afghanistan. The area has repeatedly witnessed Islamist militant violence, mostly directed at police and security forces.
The district has also witnessed other security incidents this month, including attacks involving the Pakistani Taliban.
