A Russian missile strike hit an Indian billionaire's mining and metallurgical unit in Ukraine. The strike was part of a retaliation by Russia, launched hours after Ukraine sent more than 800 drones into the country on Sunday, killing at least six people in what it called the biggest air raid.

Indian tycoon Lakshmi Mittal’s Arcelor Mittal mining and metallurgical complex in Kryvyi Rih was hit in the crossfire. The company confirmed one of its sites was hit in a Russian missile attack and that its operations were partially suspended.

The strike by Russia forced a halt to the production after it damaged core energy and blast furnace operations.

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih told Reuters, “As a result of the attack, key production facilities in the power generation and blast furnace sectors have been damaged.”

The attacks by Russia also resulted in fires in at least two districts of the capital.

The strike was also acknowledged by the Russian defence ministry. They said that its military targeted a metallurgical plant in Kryvyi Rih and several other military-industrial sites in Kyiv, including a manufacturing facility for Ukraine’s flamingo missiles.

The Ukrainian missiles have been part of its long-range attacks on Russia.

Zelenskyy announced last week that Kyiv used the Flamingo missiles to attack a rocket research and production centre in Samara. Kryvyi Rih is also Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s hometown.

The Russian strikes also resulted in the deaths of two people in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region on the border of Sumy and another in Donetsk in the east.

On Sunday, Ukraine launched hundreds of drones into Russia, killing at least six. Moscow’s regional governor Andrey Vorobyov said that the assault was one of the most massive drone attacks in recent memory.

Russia said that it intercepted 822 drones across the country overnight. Ukraine stepped up its attacks on Russia this year. It also attacked a Wildberries warehouse, which burned billions of dollars' worth of merchandise
