A Russian escort has been charged with terrorism after allegedly assassinating a high-ranking Ukrainian defector, Robert Shageev, who died in a bomb explosion in Russian-occupied Crimea. A Russian escort has been charged with the assassination of a high-ranking Ukrainian defector who died after a bomb exploded in a trash can in Russian-occupied Crimea.

The explosion killed  Robert Shageev, a 49-year-old commander in the Kremlin’s Black Sea Fleet. He was wanted for high treason.

Margarita Reut, 32, was arrested quickly in Sevastopol after being accused of allegedly carrying out the explosion under Kyiv's. orders, reports say.

Russian-based E2W News reported that Reut was remanded on a charge of terrorism leading to death.

According to Russian channels linked to security services, cited by the Telegraph. She reportedly had planned to flee the country after the assassination. She was also reportedly remorseless and answered ‘no’ when she was asked if she regretted the killing, Mash, a Russian news channel, reported.

Reut has appeared on escort websites and also worked as a biologist producing floral-infused vaginal suppositories.

The report said it was unclear when and how she became a Ukrainian intelligence agent.

Reut was born in Yasoslavl. She also lived in Sochi, a Black Sea city known for hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics. She had also frequently visited Crimea.

In July 2025, she was arrested after shouting “serves you right, Russians!”  on a public train found from Samara to Adler. The incident occurred after a Ukrainian drone attack on a rail station in Russia's Rostov region, according to the Telegraph report.

She was also detained for two days resisting arrest and was fined $36 for discrediting the russian military,

If convicted for the bombing, she could face upto 30 years in prison

Shageev was a Ukrainian naval officer and deserter who joined the Russian Army after Crimea was annexed by Russia.

He was wanted by Ukraine for high treason over his actions as the acting commander of the Ukrainian vessel Zaporizhzhia Kyiv, Kyiv’s only submarine.

His fleet was allegedly involved in submarine-launched missile attacks, the New York Post reported.
