Seven months after she was found dead in her apartment, the Canadian police arrested Abdul Gafoori, a 32-year-old man, for the  murder of Indian-origin woman Himanshi Khurana. Gafoori, Khurana’s intimate partner, was absconding, and the police had issued a nationwide warrant and photograph to trace the accused.

A statement by the police said Abdul Ghafoori, also from Toronto, has been charged with first-degree murder. He was arrested at Toronto Airport on Friday.

Khurana's body was recovered from her residence in Toronto on December 20 last year, which the law enforcement termed a case of murder under domestic violence. She was reported missing by her friends, and a search operation was launched. Her body was recovered the next day from a house in the same area.

After an initial investigation, police declared it a case of "intimate partner violence" and murder. This was the 40th murder in Toronto in 2025.

As the investigation progressed, police discovered that Himanshi and Ghafoori were in a close relationship. After the incident, the accused, Abdul Gafoori, absconded. The police had issued a nationwide warrant and photograph to trace the accused.

The Toronto Police Fugitive Squad and Homicide Unit conducted the operation in collaboration with national and international agencies. The police have not revealed which country he was returning from or where he had fled.

Police are currently preparing to present Abdul Ghafoori in court and pursue a thorough investigation into the murder.
