Rohit Sharma was planning to tie the knot by the end of this year and his family in Gaya, Bihar was making elaborate preparations for his wedding.

But fate had some other plan for the 28-year-old. He was on a holiday in Nepal with four of his friends when he drowned in the famous Phewa Lake in Pokhara.

The untimely tragedy has left his family in Chichoura village in Konch area, Gaya, mourning his death just months before his wedding.

His friends revealed that they arrived at Phewa Lake to offer prayers at Tal Barahi Temple, Pokhara, which is located on an island in the middle of the water body.

After praying, they went into the lake for swimming. Rohit accidentally ventured into the deeper section of the water body and began drowning. His friends could not save him and they alerted police immediately.

A rescue team from the local police force rescued Rohit. Though he was rushed to Western Regional Hospital, Pokhara, he was declared dead while being treated.

This comes as a boat carrying 32 Indian tourists and 4 crew members capsized near Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island, killing 15 of the Indians. These included 13 men and two women.

Eyewitnesses recalled that immediate rescue was complicated as several passengers were trapped inside the overturned boat. However, later emergency responders managed to bring out all victims.
