The US authorities arrested an unidentified man on Monday after he allegedly broke the windows of Vice President JD Vance's residence in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi revealed that the accused was arrested by the agency and handed over to local police over suspicion of property damage.

The US Secret Service called for police at 12.15 am about a person "running eastbound".

The official said Vance and his family were not in Ohio and the residence was not occupied when the incident occurred.

The $1.4 million home along the Ohio River in Cincinnati’s East Walnut Hills was purchased by Vance and his wife Usha in 2018.

This is a developing story. More details awaited.
