Parafield Airport: How did pilot escape small plane crash unhurt?

Adelaide's Parafield Airport witnessed a plane crash, causing black plumes of smoke to billow into the sky. According to Australian news reports, emergency services units were rushed to the airfield, located in Adelaide’s north, at about 12.30 pm on Monday following the incident involving a small aircraft.

The Nightly said that the aircraft landed heavily and caught fire on impact. The flames then spread to nearby grass as the wreckage went up in flames. The flames, however, have since been extinguished, the report said.

The small aircraft involved in the crash carried only the pilot, who survived without injuries, multiple media reports added. He was able to exit the cockpit before the flames caused an explosion. No other planes were damaged, they added.

"...flames and thick black smoke billowing from the plane before the emergency was controlled at the general aviation and training airport," the local 7News claimed while releasing videos of the incident.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified of the emergency and is investigating, reports said. It was not immediately known if it was a trainee pilot who was involved in the crash.
