Pakistan’s jailed former leader Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 17 years in jail in a corruption case on Saturday. The verdict was handed down during a trial at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, where Imran is currently imprisoned.
The duo were also given a fine of Rs 16.4 million.
The court said that it had considered the old age of Imran Khan and the fact that Bushra Bibi was female before awarding them a lesser punishment.

The couple have rejected all the allegations, calling them fabricated and politically motivated. Imran described the case as “malicious, fabricated, and politically engineered”.
Who is Bushra Bibi?
Bushra Bibi Khan is Imran Khan’s third wife, whom he married in a low-profile ceremony in 2018. She is known as a faith healer and a spiritual advisor, and rumours say that Khan had turned to her for advice after they met at a 13th-century Sufi shrine. Bushra is known for practising Sufi mysticism and spirituality. She has five children from her marriage to her first husband.
Bushra Bibi is currently serving a 7-year jail sentence over the Al-Qadir trust case, which alleged that Khan and others misappropriated Rs 50 billion sent by Britain's National Crime Agency during his tenure as Prime Minister. Imran Khan is currently serving 14 over the same case.
In July 2025, both Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan filed petitions in the Islamabad High Court seeking an urgent hearing for the suspension of their conviction. The proceedings have been delayed, and many speculate that the it is part of the political victimisation of PTI leaders by the military establishment in the country.
Bushra Bibi was granted bail in October 2024 and was released the next day. In January 2025, she was arrested again.
Imran Khan has accused Army chief Asim Munir of targeting Bushra due to a grudge while she is in prison.
After the imprisonment, Bushra Bibi emerged as a de-facto leader of the PTI and is considered a rallying figure for the party. In November 2024, Bushra Bibi played a major role in rallying thousands of PTI supporters to protest against the imprisonment of Imran Khan.
