Bangladesh is holding the funeral of prominent youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi today, following the unrest in the country after his death.

The funeral is scheduled to take place at 2 pm today, according to a press release from the interim government of Bangladesh.

Several restrictions have been imposed in the areas of the funeral, the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. The Chief Advisor's Facebook page asked those attending the funeral not to carry any bags or heavy objects to the area.

Flying drones around the parliament building has also been banned.

The Dhaka Metropolitan police also deployed around 1000 police personnel wearing body cameras to maintain order during the “namas-e-janaza” or the funeral rites.

According to the a social media post by the Inqilab macha Hadi, he will be buried next to the grave of the port Kazi Narul islam.

Sharif Osman Hadi was a youth political leader who was known for forming the Inqilab Manch. He quickly built support for his group by organising rallies and demanding recognition of the July uprising against the Sheikh Hasina government. He was also known for his anti-India and anti-Awami League statements.

He was shot and severely injured on December 12 after an election campaign in the Capital's Paltan area. He was a candidate for the February 2026 election. He was airlifted to Singapore for treatment, where he died.

Interim government Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus vowed swift justice, saying “no leniency will be shown” to those involved in Hadi’s brutal murder. He also urged citizens to maintain “patience and restraint”.

An unrest erupted in the capital after news of his death spread, and the buildings of two prominent left-leaning media houses were subject to arson and vandalism by a right-wing mob.
