When was the first time you saw a person of another race for the first time? How did you react when you saw a Caucasian, Turkish or African person up close? Thanks to television, most of us were certain how people from other parts of the world looked different. But when a white lady visited a school in a remote Laos village, there was mayhem!
In a video that has gone viral on the internet in the last few days, little kids were seen screaming and running away from their classrooms as a white lady approached them. They were spooked as she approached them with a smile. It was not long before she figured out that they were petrified to see a foreigner up close. While some hid under the bench and boards, others gathered their bags and ran for the classrooms farthest from the approaching lady, the viral video showed. Kids, both boys and girls were crying as she scanned the campus. THE WEEK couldn’t independently verify the authenticity of the undated video.
However, one jolly girl was found approaching the woman sans any fear or inhibitions. "Not many tourists come here," a native, possibly her guide, was heard saying in the video.
The viral clip ends as the lady goes, "these kids are smart, they know what white people do, you know..."

Laos is among the poor Asian economies that offer tourists a less commercialised experience. It receives much fewer guests when compared to Thailand and Vietnam as the communist nation has few options for lovers of nightlife, mass-market tourism and luxurious beach resorts.
