The Israel Air Force (IAF) claimed that Amar Abu Jallah, a senior naval commander of Hamas naval forces, was killed in an air strike in Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip.

IAF said Abu Jallah was involved in the Gaza war from the beginning and was responsible for plotting and carrying out several attempted naval attacks that were foiled by Israeli forces.

"The Air Force, guided by the intelligence of the Navy, AMN and Shin Bet, eliminated Amr Abu Jallah (sic), the commander of the Hamas naval force in Khan Yunis, and another terrorist from the organisation's naval force," said IAF.

"Omar Abu Jallah (sic) was a senior in the naval force, and was involved from the beginning of the fighting in sending a number of naval attacks that were foiled by our forces," it added.

Hamas weapons warehouses, coastal tunnel sites, training posts and observation posts located by an IDF naval intelligence ship were destroyed in the airstrike. IDF said these airstrikes were carried out in a bid to cripple Hamas naval capabilities and prevent future terror attacks.
