Queen Elizabeth's childhood friend, Lady Glenconner in a podcast interview said, actor Meghan Markle had no idea what she signed up for when she married Prince Harry. 91-year-old Glenconner was also one of the late Queen's maids of honour at her coronation in 1953 as well as the lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth’s sister Princess Margaret.

“I think the thing about Meghan was, she had no idea what was expected of her really,” she said, adding that Markle probably expected to be “riding around in a golden coach.”

“I think she just thought it was sort of like being another actress, you know,” said Glenconner, The Daily Mail reported. Glenconner, was, however sympathetic towards Prince Harry and that she felt very sad when the couple decided to step back from their royal duties. She also added that being a working royal is 'very boring'.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released a limited series documentary in 2022, which addressed the various issues the couple had already been vocal about like racism in the royal family, mistreatment of Meghan and biased press against the Suits actor. Markle has also said that her mental health deteriorated due to this treatment.

In the meantime, in recent weeks, rumours about the couple moving to the UK have been swirling. The duo left the UK in 2020. Also, reportedly there's a divide between the couple, as it is Harry who is insisting that they return to his home country. King Charles, has in the recent past expressed that he wished to reconcile with the couple.
