Republicans have picked Congressman Jim Jordan as their nominee for the House Speaker, days after he lost in an internal vote to House Majority Leader Steve Scalise from Louisana. Jordan, a Conservative firebrand represents Ohio and has served in Congress since 2007.

A staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, Jordan was defeated in a secret vote against House majority leader Steve Scalise, who decided to drop his nomination. Jordan gained 124-81 vote against Georgia representative Austin Scott.

Jim Jordan is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government and member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability. Though he emerged victorious against Austin Scott, in a second voting conducted by Republican representatives to determine whether members would support him in a floor vote saw 55 members vote "no" on Jordan.

A strong backer of Trump, Jordan defended the former president during the impeachment hearings in the wake of the Capitol attack and Trump awarded him Medal of Freedom a few days later.

It has been 10 days since the US House has gone without Speaker and until a new person assumes charge, the House will not be able to pass any emergency aid for Israel or pass short-term budgets for the US.
