A Texas man went next door with a rifle and fatally shot five of his neighbours, including an eight-year-old boy after they asked him to stop firing rounds in his yard because they were trying to sleep, authorities said.
The police were searching for the gunman. He was firing an AR-15-style gun in his yard.
“San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office Investigators are currently investigating a mass shooter incident in the 100 block of Walters Road in the Trails End area of Cleveland. Night shift patrol deputies were dispatched to a residence in reference to a harassment complaint. While enroute, the communications center received multiple 911 calls of an active shooter incident at the dispatched location. Multiple deputies arrived at the residence and located multiple victims deceased in a residence and several others in critical condition from multiple gunshot wounds,” San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.
Bodies of the victims reportedly lay strewn across the home, including in the bedroom, where two women lay on top of two children, who survived the massacre.
All the victims had been shot "from the neck up almost execution style, basically in the head," San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers told AFP. "He had been drinking and he says, 'I'll do what I want to in my front yard,'" Capers added.
According to the authorities, the gunman is said to be from Mexico. He's been identified as 38-year-old Francisco Oropeza.
