The video footage of the incident has gone viral

A man poured a tub of yoghurt on two women. The man has been arrested for "disturbing public order" and the two women have been detained for not covering their hair.

The video footage of the incident has gone viral. It can be seen in the video that a man approaches the two female customers and engages them in a conversation before grabbing a tub of yoghurt and throwing it at their hair.

According to Iran's judiciary, the two women have been detained for violating the country's strict hijab rules. The country's strict dress code for women has come under the scanner, since September 2022, when a young woman, Mahsa Amini, died while in detention-- she was detained for not covering her hair. Protests broke out against Amini's death following which several women were detained.

Iran’s judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Eijei, on Saturday, threatened to prosecute “without mercy” women who appear in public unveiled, Iranian media reported.

“Unveiling is tantamount to enmity with [our) values,” Ejei was quoted as saying, the Guardian reported. Those “who commit such anomalous acts will be punished” and would be “prosecuted without mercy,” Eijei said. He did not specify what the punishment would entail.
