Man in wig throws cake at the Mona Lisa

The cake attack left a conspicuous white creamy smear on the glass

A man in a wheelchair dressed as an elderly woman threw a cake at the painting of Mona Lisa at the Louvre in Paris. The cake hit the protective glass of the painting.

The perpetrator, who was wearing a white wig and lipstick urged people to "think of the Earth" as he was being taken away by security officials. 

The man, whose identity was unknown, was also seen throwing roses in the museum gallery to slack-jawed guests.

The cake attack left a conspicuous white creamy smear on the glass but the famous work by Leonardo da Vinci wasn't damaged. The 36-year-old was taken to the sent to a police psychiatric unit.

“Think of the Earth! There are people who are destroying the Earth! Think about it. Artists tell you: think of the Earth. That's why I did this,” he after throwing the cake.

Security guards were later seen cleaning the glass.
