Pakistan's PML-N-led government is considering quashing graft cases against exiled Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif or suspending his punishment under legal provisions available under both federal and provincial governments. Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan said that both the federal and the Punjab governments had the power to quash or suspend the punishment, Dawn reported.

Sanaullah Khan added that Sharif will be offered a chance to plead his case afresh for being wrongly sentenced. Sharif has been on self-exile in London, where he had gone for treatment in November 2019. Sharif will take the decision of him returning to Pakistan based on his health.

There's a need to amend the constitution and relevant laws Sanaullah Khan said. Former PM Imran Khan had been slamming Sharif for going abroad for medical treatment adding that letting the PML-N supremo go abroad for treatment was a 'major mistake' of his government.

Sanaullah Khan in the meantime said that wrapping up the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), would be a politically damaging step.
