A 67-year-old Asian woman was the victim of a hate crime when on Friday she was punched over 125 times in the head and face and stomped on seven times by a man, who allegedly called her an Asian b***h. The New Yorker was attacked at her apartment vestibule, located at Yonkers. Yonkers is a small city, the south of Manhattan in the New York suburbs. The aggressor has been identified as a 42-year-old man named Tammel Esco.

The Yonkers police department has obtained a surveillance video of the attack. Esco approached her from behind and hit her on the head. After punching and stomping on her, the man is said to have spat on her. The woman suffered multiple contusions and lacerations to her head and face, facial bone fractures, and bleeding on the brain. She was taken to a local trauma centre and is said to be in a stable condition.

The police responded to the scene, found Esco and placed him into custody. Each of Esco's acts is being charged as a hate crime. He has been charged with two felonies -- attempted murder and assault in the second degree involving a victim 65 or older. He was detained at Westchester County Jail and arraigned in a Yonkers City Court on Saturday. From March 19, 2020, to December 31, 2021, a total of 10,905 hate incidents against Asian American and Pacific Islander people have been reported.
