UK PM is being urged to sack home secretary Priti Patel over her department's handling of the Ukrainian refugee crisis. Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey told the Independent, “She has answered desperation with delays; crisis with confusion; pain with paperwork.”

At the BAFTA awards on Sunday night, actor Andy Serkis, while presenting on stage, said Patel had created a 'hostile environment' for asylum seekers. As Ukrainians flee as Russia invades their country, the UK has been criticised for taking in only 1000 refugees. He said her debut movie was 'Hostile Environment' and her follow up film was 'All Refugees Are Welcome But Some Are More Welcome Than Others,' calling it a nightmare. While the European Union is granting Ukrainians three years of residency without a visa, the UK is still controlling entry, saying it is essential for security.

Patel had said last week that security checks are important. But, some MPs have been irritated with the way the issue is being handled. “Priti Patel’s response to this humanitarian catastrophe – the biggest in Europe since world war two – is utterly shameful,” Ed Davey told the Guardian.

Levelling up secretary Michael Gove has announced a 'homes for Ukraine' scheme. This will allow individuals, charities and companies to sponsor Ukrainians. Gove said local councils will be given GBP 10,000 for every Ukrainian they welcome into their community. Households willing to help Ukrainians can register Monday onwards. “What we’re doing is saying we the government will act in solidarity and in cooperation with you, Gove said.
