Fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia entered the fourth day on Wednesday. And in the biggest eruption of the decades-old conflict, 2,300 Armenian soldiers have been reported killed and hundreds wounded since clashes broke out on Sunday. It is the first clash between the two nations since the ceasefire in 1994.

Nagorno-Karabakh is a disputed region inside Azerbaijan and controlled by ethnic Armenians, which broke away from Azerbaijan in a war in the 1990s. But, it is not recognised by any country as an independent republic.

Diplomatic efforts are on to stop the fighting and the UN has called for an immediate halt to the clashes.

The fighting has spilt well-over the borders and is threatening to turn into an all-out war between the former Soviet republics.

According to Anadolu Agency report, 130 tanks and armoured vehicles, more than 200 artillery and missile systems, approximately 25 air defence systems, six command and observation zones, five ammunition depots, 50 anti-tank guns and 55 cars were also destroyed. On peace talks with Azerbaijan with Russia as a mediator, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, “It isn’t very appropriate to speak of a summit between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia at a time of intensive hostilities. A suitable atmosphere and conditions are needed for negotiations.” An all blown-out war could drag Turkey, an ally of Azerbaijan into the conflict.
