India’s women’s compound archery team struck gold with a world-record-equalling score in a sensational performance against China at the Asian Games 2026 in Japan on Wednesday.
The Indian trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep defeated China 238-234 in the final. Their score equalled the world record set by South Korea.
India took the lead from the first rotation and held on to it throughout the contest. The victory gave Jyothi her fourth Asian Games gold, while Chikitha and Prithika won their maiden Asiad gold medals on their Games debuts.
China’s Wunier, Yue Wang and Fangyao Wei settled for silver.
India had earlier edged past South Korea 234-233 in the semifinal at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park to book their place in the final.
The gold is India’s seventh at the Asian Games and takes the country’s medal tally to 53, including 21 silver and 25 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, in squash, India’s women’s team defeated Singapore 2-0 to assure the country of at least a bronze medal.
In women’s keirin, Sarita Kumari and Keerthy Rangaswamy Chikka advanced to the repechage round after competing in the heats. In the men’s sprint, Ronaldo Singh (15th) and David Beckham (14th) progressed from the qualification round to secure places in the Round of 16.
