Viral rumours claiming that Portugese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and his longtime girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez were holding a secret wedding in Portugal on Saturday have been completely debunked by family members and media investigations.
Portuguese media reported widespread speculation that the wedding ceremony was set to take place in the footballer’s hometown island in Portugal. The ritual was rumoured to be scheduled at Funchal Cathedral in Madeira before the celebrations moved to the luxury Savoy Palace Hotel.
Fake wedding invitations were also circulated online for an exclusive weekend event with a strict black-attire dress code.
However, latest reports indicate that the wedding, which was rumoured to take place on Saturday, is not happening this weekend or this year.
Portuguese television presenter Adriano Silva spoke with Ronaldo’s sisters, Katia and Elma Aveiro, who both denied the rumours, saying that Ronaldo was not getting married this year.
Spanish news outlet Hola! contacted the Funchal cathedral, which was speculated to be the wedding venue. However, there were no weddings booked in Ronaldo or Rodriguez’s names. The locations also remained open to regular tourists and public events, showing zero signs of a high-profile wedding.
Certain accounts on X have also claimed that Georgina Rodriguez herself debunked rumours that she will be marrying Ronaldo this week.
According to a user’s post on X, Georgina allegedly said, “I just checked the internet today, and I’ve been seeing rumours that Cristiano and I are getting married in Portugal this week, but that’s not true. We will get married once he’s done with football. It could be in a year or two; that is our plan.”
The couple has been travelling on yachts ever since Portugal’s World Cup run ended, suggesting that the two are not busy with wedding preparations.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez met in 2016 and have been in a relationship ever since. The couple share five children and reportedly got engaged in 2025.
