Vinicius Junior will stay at Real Madrid and work with new manager José Mourinho, a new report said, to the great disappointment of Arsenal fans worldwide. The Gunners are unlikely to sign the Brazilian winger this summer, a report said, adding that the La Liga giants will soon restart contract extension talks with their player.
The unresolved contract talks between Vinicius and Real had given Arsenal hope. The talks were stalled for many months as the two parties couldn't reach a middle ground over his salary demands. However, Mourinho is expected to have played a pivotal role in breaking the ice between the two parties, as the veteran manager was unwilling to let go of the Brazilian.
As things stand, Real Madrid are confident that the winger will agree to a contract extension, Sky Sports said in a report. His current deal expires in mid-2027 and the Gunners thought Real would not risk losing their prized player on free agency next summer. Turns out, the Spaniards are confident that they can convince Vinicius to agree to a new long-term deal sooner rather than later.
"If you think about the valuation of the player, we think he is about £137m. That’s a large amount of money to forgo. However, they are confident he will sign that new deal. In six months from now, he could sign a pre-contract agreement with anyone outside of Spain. Then he could join any club for no money at all next summer," Sky Sports reported.
Real want to keep Vini irrespective of the outcome of the Yan Diomande deal. Arsenal were reportedly hopeful that Real would consider selling Vini to bank the expenses of getting the Ivorian teenager. But it seems like Mourinho will not let it happen, even at the cost of losing Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni together. The gaffer plans to build his team around Vinicius Jr, Kylian Mbappé, and Jude Bellingham.
