FIFA World Cup 2026 will witness a historic first as the winners will be exclusively presented with customised championship rings, alongside the trophy and gold medals after the match.
Argentina and Spain will face off in the final at New Jersey Stadium on July 19.
This move is in line with the American sporting tradition of presenting championship rings to the winners of a tournament.
FIFA will produce a total of 2,026 rings to celebrate the event. Of these, 30 rings will be reserved for the winning team and the remaining 1,996 rings will be made available for fans worldwide as a licensed product.
Each ring will display the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy on one side and the name of the winning country on the other side. After the final, the captain of the winning team and head coach will be presented with temporary championship rings. Each ring will be individually numbered and the final 30 rings will be custom-made and formally presented.
The history of championship rings dates back to 1922 when the New York Giants (an American football team) were awarded the first World Series ring. Since then, championship rings are presented to members of the winning teams in North American professional sport leagues such as the National Basketball Association (NBA), National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB) and, National Hockey League (NHL).
Personalised championship rings are highly coveted in these leagues, and have now made their way to the world’s greatest football tournament.
