Mexico's sweet 3-0 victory against the Czech Republic quickly turned sour after celebrations at the famed tourist resort of Cabo San Lucas turned violent on Wednesday night (local time).

Winning this FIFA World Cup match meant that Mexico had cleared the group stage, and was free to progress to the Round of 32.

Amid the celebrations, crowds could be seen shaking a black car violently, before it suddenly accelerated forward into a crowd of people, and injured at least 17 people, including the driver himself.

Other videos from the scene also show the crowd pulling someone from the car and attacking them, while multiple people lie bloody on the ground for reasons that are unknown at the time.

The videos also seem to show that some people threw drinks at the vehicle.

Once the car accelerated, many could be seen scrambling to get out of its path. However, the local authorities have not yet confirmed why the vehicle raced forward.

"I would ‌like to express our deepest solidarity with the people affected and their families following the unfortunate events that occurred tonight," Los Cabos' Acting Mayor Jose Manuel Larumbe said, promising to keep the public informed about the authorities' probe into the celebrations gone wrong.

Los Cabos City Council also advised citizens to be cautious during public rallies, and to "heed the directions of the authorities and to avoid behaviours that endanger their own physical integrity and those of others."

"The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) deeply regrets the incident that occurred tonight in Los Cabos during the celebrations of fans for the victory of the Mexican National Team," the FMF wrote in an X post.
