German fans witnessed their team exiting in the group stage in both the 2018 and 2022 editions of the FIFA World Cup—after winning the coveted prize in 2014. No reigning champions in the history of the tournament had ever fallen so sharply over two consecutive editions.
Yet, Germany still own one of the best overall FIFA World Cup records ever, with four titles and 12 podium finishes in their illustrious history. From 112 matches, they have 68 wins and 232 goals to their credit—a record for which they are perennially battling the five-time champions, Brazil.
Naturally, the fans are confident that Julian Nagelsmann's team have what it takes to go all the way as the tournament returns to the Americas. Veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has once again made the 26-strong squad at 40, whilst Marc-André ter Stegen missed out.
Neuer's club teammate, Joshua Kimmich, will lead Die Mannschaft as the team kick off their Group E campaign against Curaçao in Houston on June 14, before facing Côte d'Ivoire (June 20 in Toronto) and then Ecuador (June 25 in New York/New Jersey).
