Sunrisers Hyderabad pick Gerald Coetzee for Rs 2 Cr as ankle injury rules out David Payne

Coetzee has played 14 IPL games in the past - representing Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, and has 15 IPL wickets.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have roped in South Africa's Gerald Coetzee as an injury replacement for David Payne for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He will join SRH for ₹2 crore.

"Gerald Coetzee joins our squad as David Payne’s replacement for the remainder of the season," the Hyderabad franchise said in an official statement.

It was on Thursday that SRH dealt another injury setback with the England left-arm seamer being ruled out of the remainder of the IPL season. The 35-year-old featured in the first two matches for SRH, picking up two wickets, including a tidy outing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

"David Payne has been ruled out of TATA IPL 2026 after sustaining an ankle injury," SRH said in a post on X.

Right-arm seamer Coetzee is an experienced international star, having played four Tests, 14 ODIs, and 18 T20Is for South Africa. To his IPL credit, Coetzee has 15 wickets from 14 games, having previously represented Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI).

SRH are currently fifth in the table with two wins and three defeats and are up against CSK next on Saturday.
