In what comes as a positive boost to the Indian camp, middle-order batter Rinku Singh is expected to be available for selection for the clash against Zimbabwe in Chennai on Thursday (February 26). Rinku wasn't part of India's first practice session at Chepauk as he had flown back home to be with his ailing father.

According to sources, Rinku is expected to rejoin the Indian squad on Wednesday (February 25) night and hence, should be available for selection for the must-win game. However, whether he will be selected in the playing XI remains to be seen, given India's tactical issues in the tournament.

One among Rinku Singh and Tilak Varma is certain to miss out, with the team management readying the return of Sanju Samson into the playing XI. Samson's spin-hitting prowess and him being a right-hander are the two big advantages that are likely to see his inclusion in the playing XI against Zimbabwe.

Ideally, Varma's exclusion will be ideal for India as the batting order will not have to undergo too many changes. But, given that Varma has been considered a critical figure in India's batting plans and factoring in his match-winning knock in the 2025 Asia Cup final, the Hyderabad batter is likely to keep his spot.

If Rinku misses out, Tilak might have to move down the order while Samson takes the no.3 spot. There could also be a floating role for the duo and Suryakumar Yadav depending on the match situation. Rinku rejoining the team so quickly suggests a positive update on his father who has been diagnosed with liver cancer.
