Ravichandran Ashwin's relationship with Chennai Super Kings is that of an irreplaceable bond which has endured a roller-coaster ride over the years. It was at the Chennai franchise that Ashwin grew up the ranks to become one of the finest spinners in international cricket across formats. However, there was an obvious decline in their bond over the last decade.

Nevertheless, all that seemed to have been a thing of the past when Ashwin was signed by CSK for a whopping Rs 9.50 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Unfortunately for Ashwin, the season turned out to be a nightmare for the five-time champions and during the off-season, he announced his IPL retirement as well.

Apart from retiring as a player, Ashwin had also quit from his position as chief of CSK's Youth Academy. It seemed like the Ashwin-CSK bond had hit another downward curve. However, it seems like the off spinner is set to return to the CSK camp once more ahead of IPL 2026 which kicks-off in mid-March.

Ashwin recently met Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of Chennai Super Kings, and the duo allegedly had an extensive meeting. While the exact details of the meeting haven't been revealed, Ashwin in his YouTube videos had recently mentioned about being in Chennai extensively alongside his friend and experienced data analyst Prasanna Agoram.

Having retired from IPL cricket, Ashwin is understandably being linked to a potential coaching role for the Super Kings who currently do not have a bowling coach. They have been working with a bowling consultant in Eric Simons and spin bowling coach Sridharan Sriram since the 2025 season.

As of now, there is no confirmation about Ashwin's potential return to CSK. In fact, the meeting could just have been a routine one. However, if there is any merit in the speculations, the veteran spinner could be in the CSK dug out this IPL season, either in the coaching staff or as a mentor.
