Abhigyan Kundu stormed his way into social media after a record-breaking double century against Malaysia in the U19 Asia Cup 2025 fixture in December. The wicket-keeper batter became the first Indian to score a double hundred in Youth ODIs and more importantly, became the fastest-ever to a double ton in Youth ODIs.
Kundu ended that innings with a stunning 209*(125) that included 17 fours and nine sixes as India powered their way to a massive total of 408 in their 50 overs. Kundu fell just seven short of the highest individual score in Youth ODIs on a day where he could do no wrong. Kundu is another entrant from Mumbai's historic school of cricket that has produced legends aplenty over the years.
Kundu shone brightly during India's Group A fixture against Bangladesh in U19 World Cup 2026 at Bulawayo on Saturday (January 17). Kundu was unbeaten on 63, having taken India to 192-6 before heavy rain brought a delay to proceedings at the time of this article being published. Kundu batted with solid composure and added two half-century stands - 62 with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and 54 with Kanishk Chouhan - to rescue India's innings.
The left-hander made his U19 debut for India back in 2024 against Australia and hasn't looked back since. While he doesn't boast of a tall or huge frame, Kundu's power packs a punch. Before the age of 13, Kundu had already hammered a mind-boggling 21,000 runs in Youth Cricket and by 2022, those figures shot up to an unprecedented 28000.
With such a plethora of record-smashing performances, Kundu's selection to the U19 team was inevitable and it won't be long before he lands an IPL contract.
