Manchester United registered a clinical 2-0 win over arch-rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday (January 17), capping a sensational start to Michael Carrick's stint at the helm. With United's classical 4-2-3-1 system back in play, there was a lot more rhythm and fluidity to the home side's game play as they dominated City from start to finish.

After a strong first-half that ended 0-0, United surged ahead through goals from Bryan Mbeumo (65th minute) and Patrick Dorgu (76th minute) to ensure a result that clearly dents City's plans of competing for the Premier League title this season. The win also helped to catapault United into the top-four, although Liverpool and Brentford both have a game in hand.
"MANCHESTER IS RED!!!" was the typically common comment that spread like fire on social media after the fixture was completed.
"Now this is @ManUtd I subscribed to" said a user, clearly a United supporter.
Meanwhile, there was a hilarious post from a fan about Red Devils' recent ex-manager Ruben Amorim that left the internet in splits.
"The police are looking for Amorim. He was a spy who was on a mission to destroy Utd. Find him" said the user on X.
Apart from the margin of victory, the quality of United's gameplay is what has impressed fans the most. They dominated City completely and also cleared a plethora of chances with some goals also being chalked off due to off side through VAR. Nevertheless, the fans are impressed by whatever they saw from United under Carrick in this fixture.
"Are we back? We haven’t played like in a long long time! viva #ManUtd #EPL", said another fan on X.
