Dwayne Bravo is one of the greatest icons in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. While he did have a short stint for Mumbai Indians, it is for Chennai Super Kings that he managed to carve a legacy for himself. From starting out as a genuine all-rounder to becoming MS Dhoni's trusted death overs maestro, the West Indian had a roller-coaster ride.
Anyone who has spent a bit of time at CSK is full of praise about Dhoni's leadership and Bravo understandably has plenty of tales to tell about the same. During a podcast, the 42-year-old spoke about an incident that happened during CSK's comeback season in IPL 2018. It was a light-hearted conversation that reinforced Dhoni's credentials as a person with fantastic man-management skills.
Don't ever dive in cricket field again your 4 overs were more important than saving 4 runs : Thala Dhoni 🤣#MSDhoni pic.twitter.com/8YqUUGRda6

"It was the first season after we came back from the ban, in 2018. I dived for a ball at long-on," said Bravo on the podcast.
"Immediately after that, he called for a field change and put me in the inner ring. Then, after the over, he says to be 'Never dive on the field ever again, your four overs are more important than saving four runs'. I was like, wow! Then I started to field in the inner circle, inner ring etc."
"The thing with him (Dhoni) is that he will know what you are good at and he will want you for that. He won't want you to try anything or try to be anybody else."
Dhoni has historically been known for utilising minimum resources to the maximum and has always been a great man-manager during his captaincy stints across teams. Moeen Ali, another ex-CSK player, was also present in this podcast when Bravo was narrating about the IPL 2018 incident. Both all-rounders mutually agreed that Dhoni was a brilliant reader of the game.
