When Chennai Super Kings (CSK) decided to part ways with Ravindra Jadeja, it was a massive moment for the Men In Yellow. The all-rounder had been a huge icon for the Chennai franchise over the years and the balance he brought was immense. However, the show must go on and CSK went with a plan to the IPL 2026 Auction to plug the hole created by Jadeja's exit.
A like-for-like replacement that CSK signed was in the form of 20-year-old Prashant Veer, a left-arm spinner and left-hander batter who can bat anywhere in the middle order. He also has raw power and excellent skills with the ball. However, it is Akeal Hosein's signing that will give the Super Kings the immediate replacement for Jadeja's bowling.
Known for his accuracy and ability to bowl with the new ball, Hosein's addition gives CSK a lucrative spin option. The West Indian is also a more than handy batter down the order, even if not of Jadeja's caliber. Meanwhile, Hosein is a huge fan of Jadeja and his post in 2013 about the Saurashtra man is trending on social media. Remember, that was the week when Jadeja was the top-ranked bowler in ODI cricket.
"One day... I'd like to become a player like him..@imjadeja", wrote Hosein on his X handle. 12 years later, he is the successor to Jadeja in CSK's bowling attack and perhaps, as an all-rounder too. Hosein is already a key man in West Indies' T20 attack with 83 wickets at an economy of just 7.24 runs-per-over. He also has a total of 237 wickets in the T20 format with an economy of just 7.08 runs-per-over.
