On expected lines, Cameron Green's signing set the tone for the first round of IPL 2026 Auction in Abu Dhabi. While KKR were always going to bid for him, their initial opponent was an unexpected one - RR. However, low purse balance meant that the Royals had to back out beyond a point, and that brought the expected rival - CSK.

After a lengthy bidding war between KKR and CSK, Green was picked up by the Knight Riders for a massive price of Rs 25.20 crore. It is still arguably a few crores lesser than what was expected, given the big purse balances of KKR and CSK. Did the Yellow Army back out a bit too early? Nevertheless, Green's signing is the most expensive for any foreign player in IPL auction history.

Regardless, it's a great addition to KKR's squad but the Kolkataf franchise still have work to do. Meanwhile, South African veteran David Miller was signed by Delhi Capitals for his base price of Rs 2 crore. The other major development was Venkatesh Iyer whom KKR tried to get back, but they backed out at Rs 7 crore with RCB signing the all-rounder.
